- Antares is about 420 million kms in diameter, which is 300 times the width of the sun.
- The gravitational field inside a black hole is so strong that it can swallow anything in the universe, even a passing star and its light. If an objest weighing 1 kg is brought to within 6 m of a black hole, it would weigh a million million tonnes.
- The surface of the moon is pitted with craters of all sizes upto 250 km in diameter. These have been created by meteorites smashing into the surface long ago.
- The largest Volcano in the solar system is on Mars Olympus Moons, 600 km wide and 24,000 m high, is nearly three times higher than Mt. Everest.
- Quassars are stupendous power houses. They give out as much energy as hundreds of galaxies from a volume of space only a light year across.
- Halley's comet is seen after every 76 years in the sky. It was last seen in the year 1986.
- The sun is a 5 billion years old star and is supposed to remain exist for another 5 billion years.
- Jupiter planet is mostly made of gases.
- Unlike other planets in the solar system, Venus spins not from west to east, but from east to west.
- A new and tiny moon of jupiter revolves around the planet in just over 7 hours - making it the fastest moon in the solar system.
- More than 75 million meteors enter the earth's atmosphere every day, but they disintegrate before hitting the ground.
- Mars is called the Red planet because it's surface is red.
- Pluto is the smallest and coldest planet among all ten planets.
- Sirus star is much brighter than the sun. In fact, no star is as bright as sirus.
- A person of 60 kgs weight barely will weigh 10 kg on moon, but 1,680 kg on the sun.

I think universe has nor any end or any starting point.....
and also our "future"is anywhere "present" and our "past" is anywhere"present".........Strange!!!!
4th fact is wrong! Although the largest volcano is on Mars, it is called the Olympus Mons, not the Olympus Moons
hmm nice post, read it
Its...amazing....n really good..awesome
its fine not awsome!!!!!!!!!!!
I think there are 8 planets
is there aliens in universe?
Zabada is wrong there is no god!!!!!!! People can think what they want, but there is no god. There is no satan. We come from ETs.
There are almost 100 billion galaxies. Andromeda is the nearest one which is 2.6 light tears away from the earth and would dash with the earth after few billion years.:)
Hmm nice..

“Quassars are stupendous power houses. They give out as much energy as hundreds of galaxies from a volume of space only a light year across.” - Maybe you mean “quasars.”
“Unlike other planets in the solar system, Venus spins not from west to east, but from east to west.” - What about Uranus?
“Mars is called the Red planet because it's surface is red.” - The possessive form of “it” bears no apostrophe, it's just “its”.
“Pluto is the smallest and coldest planet among all ten planets.” - What are these ten planets you mention? If you include minor planets, there are much more than just ten; if you don't, there are eight, and Pluto is not even one of them.
“Sirus star is much brighter than the sun. In fact, no star is as bright as sirus.” - You mean Sirius A, “Sirius” is a binary star system. Nevertheless, it is far from being the brightest star in the universe. There are tens of stars more luminous than Sirius A (I'm talking about real luminosity, not apparent magnitude.) The brightest known star, as of October 2011, is R136a1 in the R136 star complex.
there is only one universe and that might be started from a single point then what is that place where this single point of universe exist and grew up too much
Anybody else notice the whole "ten planets" things... there were only nine when pluto was considered a planet... "Ten" though, really?
is pluto a planet , me and IAU don't think so
guys der r two seperate things called mass and weight...mass does not depend on gravitational force...but weight does...mass is constant no matter wat...but generally someones weight expressed in kg denotes weight and not mass...
4th fact is wrong!!! "Olympus Mons" is in JUPITER! not in Mars...

I want to learn more about quassar or whats d exact spelling.^^
Our god, allah is the biggest, without limit.Prophet muhammed pbuh use to told us,"God is big, even universe cant fit his big".This mean all thing, including universe is in god.But we cant see him, like wind we cant see it.He is the power behind all thing live or not, with soul or without soul.God is mastermind of universe and all thing. All thing come from Allah, only god. Before big bang, nothing exist, but only god.Allah.god,like to be known by others. So he create creatures, universe and by that he known, how he was.And we human know him and obey and praises him.Masyaallah......how strong and big you are...pardon me please....Islamic Philosophy or tasauf quote.Peeaace, love and not hate a little bit.Ibnu arabi,Muslim mystic "love is my religion".-From Malaysian
knowing most of them
is there only one universe ??may be there is another universe..if god created it then who created them?if everything originate from something, then what about the origin of god? :b
i think you need to write more.
interesting, although if nobody knew why mars is nicknamed "the red planet" i think they should go back to school. Lol. Needs more facts.
u guys r deep!
when i study about the universe, thou am a scientist,i marvel about the designer who must be the almighty God.
What lies beyond the Universe
it is quite cool..................
Nice collection. Came across another such site http://www.allfaltugyan.com and they too have insanely interesting stuff.
I am very happy for your collection
You guys are absolutely incredible.
First, number nineteen can be easily proven once the Big bang is proven, simply by using quadratic physics and Homogeneous mathematics combined with spacetime cubic algebra. Simple multiply by the coefficient you obtain once you use probabilities to depict the age of the Earth and you get an acceptable estimate of the size the Universe was at that precise time of the Big bang.
Secondly, all these facts can be found on the earliest works by famous scientists or cosmology experts from as early as 1960. The great Albert de la Baiseniere included at least half of these findings in his very interesting book "La rarete d'instruction de la theorie du Big bang", of course you would have to read french as this book never has been translated into Shakespeare's tongue.
Lastly, do never underestimate the beauty, mystery, and yes indeed fear of that the such a subject as the Universe inspire.. Isn't it overwhelming to believe that no matter how rich, cool or famous we hare on this planet...we will never be anything more than an anonymous little dot who happened to live a number of years so insignificant in their amount that there would be nothing, absolutely nothing special about any of us humans...
Interesting information here. Thanks.
i want to say to faisal that from which school he had studied from.........he didnt even know that mass depends upon gravitational force........
u must know friend.....
This is a very interesting hub, cleanclover...Two thumbs up!!! :)
R U SURE about
"A person of 60 kgs weight barely will weigh 10 kg on moon, but 1,680 kg on the sun."
guys must know that mass is constant everywhere..and it never changes with respect to space..
it was nice but... do u mind adding more....about other galaxies and universe???
love the facts about the universe
i like how that look
HI CLEANCLOVER,
GREAT INSIGHT OF THE UNIVERSE
very good information about Universe..
nothing to say!!!!!!!!
This was an awesome page, I learned a lot!
Hi Cleanclover,
Thanks for these hubs! I did not know some of them, though I did not a few of them :-) Well, I am inspired with the books that Amazon has put up in its ads and I think I am going to buy me a book about the universe. It has been a long time since I read one :-(
KrystalKane
Sorry I just realized the ads keep changing all the time :-( Nevertheless, you can check it out at natgeo whenever you get the time.
